Just wanted to post some pics of Gerties first day of school and working at home!!!

Pierreline, Poutchino & more

Gosh everyone i don't even know what all was on my last post but a lot has been going on....so get ready...

last week we where at the hospital everyday. Poutchino had 3 tubal ligation done to figure out what is going on. if there is bacteria or spinal fluid in his stomach. he also had blood work done and chest x-rays again. they want to rule out TB and make sure that is shunt isn't infected. watching the tubal ligation is hard, not because of the mucus or blood, but mainly because you can tell he is so uncomfortable with them forcing something up his nose, down his throat and through his body. we didn't do therapy all week because he was so drained everyday. no i think our little poutch's throat is irritated and he is getting a cold. anyhoo..he goes back to the doctor on Wednesday to see the doctor and talk about his results. please continue to keep him in your prayers.

speaking of cold i am getting one...and well we all know i have been sick down here way too much, so pray i recover quick. i really want to be at my best these last few weeks.

our little Emmanuel had a very stubborn fever last night that took hours to go down, but between Kez and Dannae, we were able to have the toddlers up for a movie and take care of Emmanuel. he seems to be doing much better today.

Also Pierreline our youngest...she is about 4 or 5 months old has been having diarrhea for awhile now and a few times vomiting and fevers. we took a sample to medlab to get it checked out and have put her on some meds. i am hoping that she wont have to go to the doctor. she doesn't seem to be getting worse, so that is a good sign. she is still drinking and as a whole doesn't look emaciated. the nannies are all very concerned which is precious, but we are doing our best. without a car it took me about 3 days to get the sample to the lab. the results are in though and i am talking to Chris and kez about what we should do. pray for her.

oh the car...Cullie said we might get it Saturday, but it didn't come. i received a call today from his wife sandy saying that he thinks he will be done with it today and they will come into port tomorrow so we should have a car tomorrow!!! PRAY we really do! it makes life much easier when we have our own transportation.

kez is leaving Wednesday to Gonaives with some other people to give out meds and service the people suffering and struggling there from the hurricanes. keep her in all of them in your prayers.

OK i think that is about it. i am getting really heartbroken about leaving, but i am trying to remember all the things i am so excited about coming back for, while still being oh so present here.

i wish you all blessings as you have blessed me!

News from Dorothy...

News from Haiti
Our kids, staff and friends were not harmed by the recent storms. On at least one night our basement, where the children sleep, flooded and they had to be moved upstairs during the middle of the night. Though it was hectic for all concerned, they were not in danger. Praise God!
One baby rescued from Gonaives has come to stay with us. I expect more as more than 200,000 people in Haiti were left homeless by the floods. Haiti was already experiencing a food crisis: the flooding destroyed almost all of the current crops.
Much Ministries brought all the parts needed to repair our car when they came to Haiti to help with the grueling rescue work in Gonaives. We hope to have our car back soon.
Natasha reports that Poutchino is still have fevers, cough and seizures. The neurosurgeon said it isn't caused by the shunt - it is working fine, the family doctor apparently cured the pneumonia and has no idea why Poutchino's symptoms are worsening. We are desperately worried about Poutchino. Please pray for him!!!!!
For more up-to-date information and lots of pictures, go to Natasha's blog at t-raehaiti.blogspot.com.
Our rent is due in October. If it doesn't increase, we will need $8,400 in October. This building is home to me, 18 children, and currently 3 young American women who are doing ministry in Haiti. It is also the base for our outreach to the community. Please pray that God will provide all the funding that we need, for rent and all other programs.

News from Jacksonville
Surgery to replace my right knee was successful and I am recovering quickly. I am 5 weeks post-op and already in much less pain than before the surgery. I can't wait to get back to Haiti. If all goes as expected, the doctor will release me on October 8th and I will get to Haiti within the next few days.
It has been fun getting in touch with old friends. My friend April Stapp is doing great work expanding Child Evangelism Fellowship in Duval Country. Last year she reached many children by holding Good News Clubs at the Police Athletic League. This year there is a good chance of getting into the public schools and she desperately needs workers to help. Please spread the word: opportunities are unprecedented but there are too few workers. If you want more information about helping, email April at a.stapp.@comcast.net Child Evangelism Fellowship has a website at www.cefonline.com

A poem from Kevs & me

SPRING

In the spring
the little birds sing

the frozen river starts to flow
like an army deffeated
the snow has retreated

there is joy in the mountains
there is life in the fountains

and now our poem is finally complete
i hope that you all thought it was sweet!

brace yourself...its long

Hello friends...so looks like this is going to be a long update...brace yourself and read on...

so it looks like we, well Dorothy wont have to deal with animals in heat or puppies and kittens anymore because Keith a fellow missionary is going to help. Keith is a veterinarian who works with cows and other animals to help prevent disease. i don't really know specifics, but he is involved in helping with agriculture concerns in Haiti. he helps us with getting rid of ticks and anything we ask really. he's great! anyway he is planning to take all the animals to get spayed/neutered at the end of this month. did i ever tell you all that we have kittens...they are about 5 weeks now i think and she had 5...we'll be with out any animals for a week probably and since dogs are a form of they of protection here i have been thinking about what we could do. so we were going to ask ivens (dannaes fiance) about borrowing the puppy/dog he took from nala's first litter. the spaying isn't going to cost anything so that is a praise to God!

Cullie has the parts to the car to fix it, but no word on when it will be done for sure. it will be such a relieve when it is finsihed though. i am sure Dottie and Chris with be relieved to not have to be checking up and taking me places all the time. i have been so grateful to them and others for the encouragement and offers to help. in fact just this week has been crazy with needing rides, so pray the car comes back as soon as possible!

mickenson finished his 18Th shot today and then we went to the doctor. it looks like his left testicle has dropped down, but the right one still is not doing well.the doctor wants to do surgery in the next week or so, but its going to be very expensive and i didn't really know what to do or feel completely comfortable making that call so i am emailing with Dorothy to figure out what we are going to do. pray for wisdom and funds to make this happen as mickenson need to have this or he will most likely get cancer.

Gladys the owner/landlady of Dorothy's miracle house stopped by and i loved her right on the spot...she has a great spirit about her. she was just checking on things and making sure Dorothy and the kids were alright. she is looking into fixing some pipes because of the flooding downstairs a few days back. we don't want to be too pushy about fixing things, since the house is such a blessing, but it is kind of a big deal seeing as it rains often around this time. however God is good because its only happened once and it wasn't even that bad we just brought the kids upstairs. it was hectic, but not bad at all.

Great news and an answered prayer...Chris got poutchino in at freir ti sir(sp?) the hospital that usually doesn't take kids that are getting help from white people/foreigners and it is where our doctor recommended to take him. it was so wonderful to be able to get him in. they are doing a lot of tests to completely rule out TB and then go from there. we spent practically all day at the hospital on Monday and then he has to go back Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday...which means i will be going to hospitals everyday this week. pray for poutchie as the tests they are doing he isn't suppose to eat for 12hours or more before so he cant have breakfast probably for 3 days in a row. they put him on a bunch of vitamins and amoxicillin again too. i hope that we can figure out what is going on...pray that above all it is not an infection in his shunt. although TB is bad and other things are horrible too, an infection in his shunt could really set him back and we need surgeons who can do the operation, plus post op and then another operation to put a new one in...oh i don't know what to ask for really...just pray it is something minor so that he can keep progressing the way he has been.

overall though the kids are all doing VERY well.

Kez put johny back on amoxicillin as he cant seem to get rid of having ear infections on and off... doesn't seem to be getting fevers though, which is a good thing.

Patrick our new little boy from Gonaives is a delight! Cha Cha has really taken to him! he fits in well with the toddlers...i think he has to be on his way to 3 or older...his teeth... i mean he doesn't walk that well and isn't potty trained, but everything else makes me thinks he is around 3 or so..who knows though I'm not an expert and we don't have any information on him and his family.

Emily Marie calls me mommy sometimes and is getting so good at walking, but really becoming a whiner/mama's girl, but then again i think she calls rosemanie and some of the nannies that too. its one of the handful of words she is saying now. i am praying that somehow the Lord will keep her close to me as the thought of leaving her makes my heart break so deeply.

Gertie is doing wonderful with school...i really think she loves being the one kid that gets to go out practically everyday...shes a princess for sure. today i have a story from her...she bit Claudine's ear, a real puncture and i spent an hour disciplining her...trying to get her to say 'pardon' (sorry), sitting in time out, waiting for her to stop screaming to talk with her. finally after an hour or so...she would give Claudine a kiss and hug, but wouldn't say sorry so i let her go downstairs. then i went to the roof and prayed that i was wise in the situation and just wanted some peace away from the noise of 18 children. the next thing i know Kevs bring the two of them outside looking for me...turns out Gertie decided she wanted to apologize to me and to Claudine. the look on Gertie's face shown with restoration and happiness as she knew she was doing the right thing. she said 'pardon' so loud and filled with pride as she did the right thing. it was truly a precious moment...the hour no longer felt draining, but wise and fruitful. :)

frantzo is getting better at walking everyday and mimicking more words...it still remains that forces exercise is just not his thing...

mackenson is mackenson...still hold on...sir mirelle really loves him, and when she works doesnt seem to let anyone else feed him.

kevs and i made a schedule to help him take ownership of his time and help him with not being bored and then getting into trouble. it is really helping him have good days and i think he feels more responsible for his time...it would be great if he had a watch but i cant find one in the stores, he is getting excited for Dorothy to come home, i hope it doesn't mean he is excited for me to leave ;)

everyone seems to be getting bigger, getting more teeth, or walking better...i know its not all the kids, but that would take way to long and i need to go to bed.

thanks for everything...

quick update

well Cullie & Sandy picked up the parts for the car this week so hopefully we will have it in a week or so! pray he finds the time and it all goes well so we can have the car back as soon as possible.

Lavinsky is still not with us and i havent recieved any word. i am assuming he is still at Grace hospital.

Papa beaver went home today and i can tell Kevs misses him. pray for kevs as we are having some rough spots. you know i am realizing more and more everyday how freakin hard it is to raise kids. anyway...its something that you must walk with the Lord in as you cannot do it alone.

i mean you should walk with the Lord on all things, but we are human and lack wanting to depend on Him for everything...anyway i am rambling...

i only have a little over 3 weeks left and its hard to come to the close of this season in my life as i have loved it oh so much and will truly miss life here. its going to be beyond bittersweet. i keep saying i wish i could be in more than one place at a time, but i cant...

i know i will be happy to be back to kc, but i am very happy here...guess i am just adaptable and in the words of Ed McCully, "being a missionary requires infinite adaptability."

well just a couple updates and ramblings before i'm off to bed.

Patrick & Kez

Goodness...I apologize for just now updating as many things have happened.

Papa Beaver came on Monday with parts for the car. however Cullie still has to get them up to the mountain and into the car working properly. pray it goes quickly/God's speed! it was great to meet Beaver brooks(Kevs adoptive dad) and hear about his adventures through Gonaives to help out the people there. he leaves on saturday and is going to being going back and forth many times this week. keep him and the others working to get children and people out of the mess there. pray for their safety in travels and continued prayer for Gonaives and Haiti.

Cabaret was also hit bad with a flood, but for those who know the Merritts and orphanage in bercy know they are safe and well. in fact Rusty and Cheryl are taking in many children from Gonaives. Keep them in your prayers. i think Pastor Emory and Mary with being staying at bercy for now as there ministry in Gonaives is not in a place where it can function well.

Yesterday we were welcomed with two more wonderful additions to our home here. Patrick, a little boy from Gonaives. We think he is around 2yrs old. i dont know his story only that he was in an orphanage out there. he has a great smile and is slowly adjusting into things. we are treating him for scabies, but overall he is doing for well healthwise. i'll try to take him to medlab for our normal overall tests when i can work out transportation.

Our next guest that came was Ms. Kez Furth. she is an RN and Dannae & mine's new roomie. She is sweet and has already taken over giving the shots to Mickenson, which i am sure Chris is thankful for. she will be working at sherrie's ravine on wednesdays and with Dr. Ed's medical clinics on tuesdays and thursdays, but the rest of the time she will be helping around here.

in fact the other day we were talking about Poutchino and how she would love to take over doing therapy with him on the days she is here after i leave. he has improved so much since i have been here working with him, but i am so heart broken that his shunt more than likely is infected, which mean his progress might go right back to were it was before i came with surgeries, waiting, and the complications that come with hydrocephalis kids and shunts. however when she told me she would love to take over working with him, my heart smiled. it was an answered prayer.

continue to pray for poutchino as his cough and fevers are still presistant. pray we can get him into a hospital, pray for doctors that can do the surgeries he needs, if his shunt is infected, pray for a miracle. pray for a family to adopt him. just pray.

mickenson is suppose to go back to the doctor on the 23rd of this month...hopefully he will be finished with his shots...poor guy, after the last two he will have had a total of 18 shots.

what else...the other baby, baby lavinsky, we may be getting him on thursday. he has HIV and isnt doing so well...so we'll see.

oh one more thing...tonight downstairs where the kids stay most the time and sleep was a bit flooded from the HEAVY rain tonight so we brought all the kids upstairs...pray this doesnt happen when it rains as it really is difficult to relocate 18 children and have them be calm.

tomorrow we will be cleaning downstairs and praying it doesnt happen again!

okay...wow so many things to pray for...i hope i didnt scare you off...

you are blessed, and you are loved my fellow children of the KING!!

and so many blessings to me! <3 <3 <3

We’re okay! September 8, 2008

I thought I would give you an update on some things…

It has been raining a ton and it needs to stop as the outskirts are getting hit pretty bad. In fact, Rusty called today and said the Cabaret was hit pretty bad, but the orphanage in Bercy is okay. We are doing okay, but with probably be getting two babies in from Gonaives soon as they cannot go back there.

I haven’t gotten any word from Kathy Brooks so I am not sure when Beaver is going to come down, but I do hope it is soon. As I know the people out in Gonaive can use all the help they can get, I would love to have the car get fixed, plus I think it would be really good for Kevs to get to see Papa Beaver.

Gertie stated pre-kindergarten today and she was so cute. She goes at 11am and is done at 3pm. I think she is really going to do well. I took some pictures, but will have to upload them later.

I put Poutchino on Fluconazole, which is a medicine to help fight fungus. Dorothy and I talked and felt it might help with whatever is going on in his body. He still has a horrible cough that just isn’t going away, but he has only had a few fevers since I have been back. Mrs. Chris did a TB test on him, she checked it today and he was negative. Praise God for that, but we still need to get him better. Keep him in your prayers.

Emmanuel has been sick and he is truly such a big help around here so pray that he gets better soon.

I feel like there is other things I could tell, but my mind is going blank…

I’m still loving being here, although it is really rough at times. Talk about learning to be a parent…I really am. And its hard…props to EVERYONE who is doing it and has done it…may God bless you and give you peace!!!

Ok I guess that’s all for tonight.

Flooding and more….

Well I am sure many of you are worried as you have heard so much about the hurricane hitting Haiti, however our home is safe and well. I know that some places in port have been affected and damaged, but overall the masses that have been hurt are in outskirts of the city. Places like Gonaives...there our missionary friends’ car literally was swept out to sea and they are living on the roof of the orphanage. As of yesterday, the road to get there was impassable. The UN couldn’t even get through, but Pastor Emory said that he was shoveling mud out of their home and water seemed to be receding, which is good news.

I received a called from Dorothy and Mama Kathy(Kevs adoptive mom)yesterday it was so great to talk to the both of them! Dorothy is doing well. the surgery went fine and she good. i could tell she really misses being here, which i can understand. I was only home for a week and i missed the kids, i cant imagine being gone for this long and having been with most of them for 3 years. continue to keep her in your prayers as she is still recovering.

One of the main reasons they called was to inform me that I may be housing and taking care of babies from Gonaives as soon as they can get them into port. With all the water there will be many diseases, probably typhoid and lack of clean water...we need to get them in a safe place. it might be a lot so it looks like as soon as they can Kathy's husband Beaver, a family friend Casey and her sister will be traveling here to help.

This is when the good news comes in... The Brooks family has found someone to buy and get the parts for the car. Beaver wants to come maybe on Monday with the parts, take them up to Cullie, get the car fixed and then drive it to Gonaives. He will help pastor Emory and when they can get babies to me they will. Casey and her sister, who is a nurse, will stay with me and help take care of them. Then on top of them being here we will get Kez our new roommate soon and she is also a nurse. Technically, she will be here to work with sherry and Dr. Ed, but she will be living with us. I am excited for all these nurses!

Praise God that we may then have a car back in a couple weeks! Praise God that I will have more help coming and help will be coming for the people in Gonaives! Sarah Beth leaves today, we are all sad inffact; Kevs prayed last night that the weather would be bad so she could stay for a month…it was cute! Praise God that she was able to come, but God is good and knows that she needs to get back to her work and life in KCMO. Well I need to get going, but thought you all needed and update on the things going on.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
Blessings,
Natasha
